Idrija Region

Idrija - A UNESCO Story Woven from the Tradition of Lace and Mining

As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Idrija boasts the second largest mercury mine in the world. It is also the birthplace of a distinct lace-making tradition, a specific culinary legacy and unique technical heritage. Discover "klavže" – water barriers that are the Slovenian equivalent of the pyramids in terms of their ingenious design. Set out to visit the UNESCO Geopark.

To visit:

  • Old town with Gewerkenegg Castle
  • The Idrijca River, Lake Divje jezero,
  • Natural park Zgornja Idrijca
  • Mercury Mine

Swimming, beach volleyball, table tennis, basketball, picnic places and more, all of this is available at the confluence of the Idrijca and the Belca, place of the popular and well-known natural swimming area »Pri Lajštu« or Idrijska Bela. Here you can swim in crystal clear water or play beach volleyball at the court. There is also a smaller basketball court, for those who enjoy shooting the hoops. You can also enjoy a game of table tennis, since there are two tables to play on. Or you can just enjoy a drink at the bar. For those who wish to organise their own picnic, you can rent a wooden picnic house at the bar.

Alps, technical terrains and good maps... Yes, it is always nice to run on Cerkno Cup!
